Top 10 Most Valuable Football Players (2019 Edition)
With the football transfer market prices highly inflated, even average players go for tens of millions. If we are talking about the best players in the world, they can cost clubs hundreds of millions. The football scene is extremely competitive and many clubs are in search of potential ‘world beaters’. So who are the most valuable players in the world today?
#10. Bernardo Silva (Estimated value: €120 million)
The Manchester City magician has proven himself as one
of the best players in the world. His dribbling, ball-control and decision
making are very comparable to Messi himself. Although he isn’t the fastest over
a distance, he has a quick burst of speed and can weave past the best defences
in an instant. If he can add goals to his game, he could be way higher up the
list.
#9. Virgil Van Dijk (Estimated value: €130 million)
Van Dijk has transformed a struggling Liverpool defence into Champions League winners. For his heroics across the EPL and UCL, Van Dijk was awarded the 'UEFA Men's Player of The Year' award and the 'Champions League Defender of The Season' award. He is a brick wall in a human body; physically immovable in most matches. Many teams would crave for a beast like Virgil; Liverpool are extremely lucky to have him. Being 28, he still has few good years ahead of him.
#8. Lionel Messi (Estimated value: €150 million)
There is no introduction needed. The only reason he is lower down the list is because of his age. We know decline due to age can start at any time. Even C.Ronaldo is experiencing the beginning stages of his decline, even though his fitness is unmatched. Messi still has alien-like footwork, but his age might catch up to him very quickly; turns 33 next summer.
#5. Kevin De Bruyne (Estimated value: €155 million)
The Belgium has had a meteoric rise since joining Manchester City. His playmaking abilities are unparalleled for an attacking midfielder. His crossing and dead balls are inch perfect. There is no real weakness in his play. He has endured injury problems recently (Knee injury- 106 days missed), however he has seemed to recover back to full strength and is mostly avoid of any future knee problems. If you do not have any idea of how ridiculous is passing is, just look at this clip. The scariest part is he pulls off this kind of madness on a regular basis!
#6. Sadio Mane (Estimated value: €160 million)
The Senegalese winger is one of the best in his position. Fast, tricky and decisive, he has all the qualities required for a top winger in the modern game. He is an integral part of Liverpool’s attack and even won the Premier League golden boot in a three-way tie for scoring 22 goals during the 2018/2019 season. You could say his best years are still ahead of him.
#5. Mohammed Salah (Estimated value: €165 million)
The Egyptian scored a ridiculous 32 goals and won the EPL golden boot during the 2017/2018 season. Many thought that was a fluke, but his next season would prove that is not true; won the EPL golden boot again in 2018/2019 in a three-way tie. The Egyptian is hitting is prime years and is a world-class winger. Once labelled the ‘Egyptian Messi’, he is probably the player closest to fulfilling the ‘Messi’ tag given to many youngsters for their Resemblances to the Argentinian.
#4. Harry Kane (Estimated value: €170 million)
The England skipper is a proven goal-scorer at the biggest of stages. He won the EPL golden boot during the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 season. He is still 26 and has time to leave Spurs and kick-start his career again. If Kane can avoid fitness problems and gets a transfer to a better club, we can be sure he will be smashing goal-scoring records for many years to come. Tottenham is stagnating his world-class talent in many ways, and off course, trophies.
#3. Neymar (Estimated value: €180 million)
Neymar is a Brazilian wonder. No matter the controversy surrounding him, he always performs every time he steps onto the pitch. PSG bought him for €222 million so he can win them the Champions League and that dream is still very much alive. His downfall has been due to injuries and his off- the-field field antics. His habit of mocking defenders with humiliating skills (which are unnecessary) doesn’t help his case either. He had 2 major foot injuries and a torn ankle ligament over the past 2 years. He has missed countless matches for PSG, including crucial UCL ties versus Real Madrid and Man Utd; which PSG lost on aggregate. If it wasn’t for the injuries, he could be higher up the list.
#2. Raheem Sterling (Estimated value: €185 million)
Raheem the ‘Dream’ Sterling! A player who made us rethink about how much a football player could actually improve himself by. His transformation has been incredible to say the least. He was a menace at Liverpool, but only on the wing. He had barely any end-product near the goal. Pep Guardiola has moulded his raw talent into a polished diamond. His finishing inside the box can now be compared to the best in the world. He is only 25! There is so much more to come from the T-rex-handed winger.
#1. Kylian Mbappe (Estimated value: €250 million)
The only teenager to score in a world cup final since Pele, Kylian Mbappe has taken the world by storm at such a young age (20 years old). His emergence is redefining the standards of footballers at his age. All of a sudden every young prospect is expected to be able to play first-team football and perform consistently, just because one French boy can score 39 club goals in a season. The levels are truly absurd. Mbappe has many options once his tenure at PSG is over, with Real Madrid looking like his most likely destination. Regardless of where he goes in the future, we can expect Mbappe to go down as one of the best players of all time.
